International Puma Day

International puma, cougar, and mountain lion day is August 26th! The biggest threats facing pumas are habitat loss, wildfire threats, trophy hunting, and prey loss. Pumas need to be protected and have plenty of native land untouched by humans so they have territories they can thrive in.

The Florida Panther Festival draws in thousands of people every year. The festival takes place at the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens on the first Saturday in November (FPF, 2020). Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the 2020 festival has been canceled.

P-22 in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, California is the most famous puma. As the most famous puma he has his very own day to celebrate him, and his puma friends. October 22nd is officially P-22 day! You can celebrate the 5th annual P-22 Day Festival virtually on October 24th. The event is free to attend. There will be music, fun activities, information and prizes! Register to save your spot and stay up to date on announcements.

You can symbolically adopt a Florida panther, through the National Wildlife Federation, and help panthers in the wild. You can symbolically adopt a cougar through the World Wildlife Fund, which also helps cougars in the wild. Lastly, you can buy a P-22 stuffed animal, through #SaveTheLACougars campaign, where all profits goes towards funding the Liberty Canyon Wildlife Crossing.

Make sure you celebrate pumas every August 26th! If you live in Florida, attend the Florida Panther Festival next year, in 2021! Register to attend the virtual P-22 Day Festival on October 24th!
