International Snow Leopard Day

Happy International Snow Leopard Day! October 23rd is International Snow Leopard Day.

The Global Snow Leopard Ecosystem Protection Plan set the goal of securing 20 landscape- level snow leopard populations by the end of 2020 (SLC Global Plan, 2019). This plan states that each population must have at least 100 breeding age snow leopards, adequate and secure prey populations and connectivity to other snow leopard landscapes and populations (SLC Global Plan, 2019). There are still about 10 weeks left before the end of the year, and hopefully they reached and accomplished their goal.

You can symbolically adopt a snow leopard through the World Wildlife Fund or through the Snow Leopard Conservancy.

You can print out and make a fun snow leopard door hanger, to let everyone know that you support snow leopards. The World Wildlife Fund gives the template and instructions so all you have to do is print it out, cut it, assemble it together, and hang it up proudly. Visit this website to get the template: https://www.wwf.org.uk/sites/default/files/2019-03/WWF_Snow_Leopard_Door_Hanger.pdf

The World Wildlife Fund has a WWF Together App where you can explore their habitat, compare your jump length to the length a snow leopard can jump, and learn other information about snow leopards, and other wildlife.

Go out and celebrate snow leopards today, and every October 23rd!
